Dear member,
LCPA-WEST board members are still working hard for your RIGHTS. The navigable water access issue has snowballed state wide. People are being denied access all along the coast and the battle is coming to the forefront. No one has been arrested for trespassing in St. Martin Parish, so our efforts have not been in vain. The tide seems to be turning but we still need more support. You can help by recruiting new members, educating yourself, and getting more involved. Applications can be downloaded from the web-site or can be picked up from any board member.Don't forget to stay in touch with web-site: www.LCPA-WEST.com. The most powerful person in Baton Rouge is you, the voter, so get involved. Don't be afraid to ask the tough questions, your representatives work for you, not special interests.
Board members have been busy the last 12 months. We've met with the governor, (Katheleen Blanco), the secretary of natural resources (Scott Angelle), the secretary of wildlife and fisheries(Dwight Landraneau), the sheriff (Ronny Theriot), the Parish Council, the School Board, and the Tulane Law Clinic. Access to state water bottoms, water quality, reopening natural bayous, operation of gates at the Old River Control Structure, harassment of fishermen, support for our boundary issues, claiming state lands (Section 16 School Board Properties ) and the petro chemical practices on navigable waterways are some of the issues that have been discussed. We have a new administration in Baton Rouge and more meetings are planned in the near future.
The lawyers are about to file the lawsuit against the pipeline and location canal spoilbank permit violations. If you have not filled out your pipeline questionaire and renewed your LCPA-WEST membership you need to get it done as soon as possible or you may be left out. You must have a valid commercial fisherman,s license to be eligible.
This is not a class action litigation. Your name must be on the list to be included.
